New Comics for the Week

In the midst of studying really hard and trying to balance that out with blogging, there hasn't been much time for fun, or news, but that'll never stop the weekly comic preview. Now with thoughts on the Oscars. Read on for both.

Batman/Superman Annual #1

Huge issue. I mean, because it's the annual and it's a dollar more than an annual usually is, so I'm expecting more pages. One thing to note, is that Jae Lee and Kenneth Rocafort are both on this issue, so expect big things in the art department. Also it looks like it's gonna be just crazy, based on the cover. Check out IGN's PREVIEW.

Detective Comics #29

Here's John Layman's finale of Gothtopia, as well as his last written issue of Detective Comics. Will Batman be able to escape Scarecrow's perfect city? Probably, because Detective Comics has an issue next month, but it should be interesting to see how this all ends. Layman's run has been pretty great. Check out DC's PREVIEW.

Now, some thoughts on last night's ceremony. It was absolutely wonderful. Ellen was probably the best host I've seen in an Oscars, and the whole thing was just a lot of fun. Whether or not you appreciated the winners that the Academy chose, you couldn't help but enjoy the laid-back nature of the ceremony itself. Martin Scorsese was eating pizza at the Oscars. Pharrell was wearing shorts and his signature hat. There was just a great feel to everything last night. All movies and performances were deserving of their nominations. I still need to go back and watch some of the best picture nominees I unfortunately haven't seen yet, like 12 Years a Slave, but I plan on seeing them all soon.

Hopefully they ask Ellen to host again before another seven years, because that's definitely a good choice.
