Justice League War is Full of Action

The new DC animated movie which released today on Blu-ray and DVD brings the animated universe into the New 52 timeline, finally. That means a lot of more current things have the potential to be turned into animated movie. Look inside for a few thoughts.

First of all, the movie is an adaptation of the first Justice League graphic novel in the New 52, which I think has the first six or seven issues. Basically, it's the dawning of the age of heroes in the DC universe and all of these people are meeting each other for the first time.

With a few noticeable changes, that is. Shazam takes the place of Aquaman in this movie. Aquaman has been one of the most popular books since the New 52 relaunch back in 2011, and has been selling extremely well, but they decided to leave him out of this one. It's strange, but very clear at the end. The fact that they leave Aquaman out of this one is a perfect set up for DC to do an animated movie based on the Justice League and Aquaman crossover storyline, the Throne of Atlantis. It's looking like that may be the case.

The movie itself isn't quite as good as Flashpoint, the previous DC movie. This one is where all the heroes basically just meet and get used to each other. They don't even want to be a team. Basically, the heroes are fighting each other in this one, in addition to Darkseid and his minions. There's a few nerve-grating parts, but this movie is pretty well done.

It's not only the New 52 launching in animated movies, but this new cinematic universe as well. Apparently, these will be the exact versions of these characters we see in animated movies from now on. I'm feeling like there will be a lot more continuity between them all now, as opposed to just doing adaptations of various story lines. I think Court of Owls would work as a double movie like Dark Knight Returns. Most of all, in this new DC universe, I'm hoping they adapt Snyder's Death of the Family. I think that'd work really well as an animated movie.

If you pick up the Blu-ray at Target, it comes in a SteelBook case, as well. And the special features include a few exclusives, some vintage cartoons, and a preview of The Son of Batman, which is the next animated movie. It looks like it'll be a loose adaptation of some of Grant Morrison's stuff, Inc., or not.

The Origin trade is also on sale anywhere you can buy comics. It's essentially the same story, with a few tweaks. It's also go Aquaman in place of Shazam. They're saving him for the next Justice League New 52 movie, for good reasons. Anyway, there's some thoughts on this new movie. Definitely recommended for DC fans.
