Thoughts on I, Frankenstein

Sometimes you just need a break from work, stress, and super deep and complex dramas. I, Frankenstein provided me with an hour and thirty minutes of just that. It's a fun movie that accomplishes just being a big, fun action movie. Thoughts inside.

Aaron Eckhart is the titular "Frankenstein ('s Creature)", who has survived for years until eventually living in modern times. The creature had previously killed his creator's wife and even he eventually died off. Given the name Adam, the creature soon finds himself in the middle of a war between the angelic Gargoyles and the demonic... demons.

Eventually, Adam finds a sort of friend in the form of a doctor working for the head of the Wessex Institute, Charles Wessex. She aids him in his quest to "descend" the demon hordes and destroy the demon prince, Naberius. The plot is a little thin, but if you're not going into this movie for the action scenes, then you're doing it wrong.

Admittedly, I was a little skeptical during the first action scene, which cut away a lot, but by the end, there had been quite a few fights which were really awesome. I don't know why this movie is getting really harsh reviews, but it doesn't deserve that low of scores. It's no masterpiece, but it's very cool and stylish. The side characters on both sides of the good-evil spectrum are fairly uninteresting, but Eckhart's Adam, Yvonne Strahovski's Terra, and Bill Nighy's (Davy Jones from Pirates) Charles Wessex are pretty great in this. Also it should be noted that Adam just looks really cool after he cuts his hair after the time skip.

This is a movie you just go see to have some fun. I don't think the story could be stretched any longer unless the last fight took a different turn. I kind of wish it did because I rather enjoyed this movie, but it ended in 90 minutes, so I'll take what I got. It won't win any awards, but don't let that shy you away from some good, mindless, and unimportant fun. The lore of the world in the movie is pretty fun, and even though the story feels odd at times, I, Frankenstein is worth a watch for action fans or fans of demon hunter stuff. It's a super exciting tale of, essentially, badass Frankenstein fighting off vicious hellspawn.
