Test After Test After Test

It's been a tough few days for a few American athletes at the Olympics much like it's been a tough few days for me, with more tests to come next week. In this post, you'll find some personal details, and coverage of Olympics and Lightning.

I can't help but feel that two time Gold Medalist Shaun White was plagued by unfortunate circumstances in his half pipe final last night. The broadcasters kept going on about how the half pipe wasn't good and it was making the snowboarder's boards shake and just not allow them to do well at all. And they also said that the end of the track was bad as well. Shaun White goes last, which means the half pipe is already well worn-out.

I am really glad he was a good sport about it, but it would have been nice to see him get the Gold, and nice to see better conditions for everyone involved in the half pipe. Everyone's runs were plagued by the unfortunate condition of the half pipe. I don't know if he's going to stop competing in the Olympics, but whatever he does next, I'm sure he'll do amazingly as he has in snowboarding for years now.

Another upset is the 8th place ranking of two time Gold Medalist Shani Davis in Men's 1000M speed skating. He's got to feel just really bad, and I hope he can clear his head before his 1500M on Saturday. Maybe he'll be able to get a medal in that, but there's just a lot of things going through his head right now from the news reports I've read.

All this week in speed skating, they've boasted the secretly-designed new suits for the US team. And while they've been discussing them, I've been thinking: could those be more of a hindrance? Could it be that they should have just stuck to the suits they were used to or some variant of that? Going from 1st to 8th also makes me wonder if it's the conditions Davis was presented with. And if that's the case, which we may never know, then I'd be at a loss for words, too.

Either way, with both White and Davis, (and no, not the US pair figure skaters... just realized they have the same last names) they both did good and tried their hardest, and were good sports. Ultimately the Olympics is all about sportsmanship.

On the Lightning front, I didn't get the chance to play too much today, but I got about 70 minutes or so in over two sessions. I found out that the enemy I was struggling with is just a tough enemy, but I'm still finding it difficult to manage my in-game time correctly. Also, the guide suggests certain attacks that I'm having trouble finding, and I have lost a lot of time misreading directions like "South of the North station," and stuff like that. Other than that, I've pretty much gotten used to the combat; it's just the customization of moves that's still a little hard to grasp.

I'll have it down, soon, and with good time-managing skills. The collector's guide is very good at explaining mechanics of the game, it is 350 pages, after all. I almost his an impasse today after buying four new garbs because I needed a train ticket and I had 0 money. Good thing I had some materials I was able to sell, but now those are gone. Very easy to make mistakes in this game! But I'm taking my time, even though that's kind of not the point of the game. (I say this because I pause a lot to delve deeper into the strategy aspect.)

Finally, on my front: I'm faced with another harsh situation on Tuesday. Another earthquake midterm followed by another big Japanese test. And this is coming off of the long weekend. Much like the rest of this quarter has been, I just can't catch a break. I cannot wait for this quarter to be over for two huge reasons. One: I get to escape this vortex of science GEs. Two: I will begin coverage of inFAMOUS: Second Son. I also had my marine biology midterm a few nights ago, and it was very difficult.

My path to film school is paved with challenges!
