5 Modern Reasons Why Batman is Awesome

After a long and tiring day, it's good to head back and consider some reasons why Batman is completely awesome. Hopefully this list will broaden your horizons to new things to try, related to Batman.

#5. The Arkham game series.

Arkham Origins, City, and Asylum, all for seventh generation gaming consoles have proven to be some of the most fun and exciting games in years. This is truly playing as Batman as he solves crimes and swoops around a large, open world in the latter two. The stories are gripping and the cast is excellent. The games themselves almost feel like a continuation of the old animated series, and there's no problems with that. You owe it to yourself to check these games out, whether you're a fan of Batman or not.

#4. Zero Year.

Scott Snyder's current arc on the Batman comic is a retelling of Bruce Wayne's journey into becoming Batman. It's full of crazy twists and features villains such as Riddler, Red Hood, and most recently, Dr. Death. Batman continues to be handled perfectly by Scott Snyder and drawn to perfection by Greg Capullo. This ongoing arc is like nothing we've ever seen.

#3. The Court of Owls.

Snyder's first arc on the Batman comic, beginning with the first issue introduced this fearsome new league of villains to the DC universe. Some of the finest comic issues have appeared in this arc, including Batman #5, a huge achievement for the team. The Court of Owls has also given us the comic Talon which is a spinoff set to end in a few months, but is absolutely epic. And don't even get me started on the huge twist at the end of this arc.

#2. Christopher Nolan's Batman movies.

Nolan outdid himself with Begins and the Dark Knight, but Rises surpasses both of them in terms of sheer epic-ness and fun. These movies are the greatest comic book movies by far, but are able to join the ranks of critically acclaimed movies. They turned something that people may see as silly into something that everyone can enjoy. It's a dark, gripping genre that never disappoints and always leaves us with a smile on our face.

#1. Death of the Family.

Speaking of putting a smile on our face, that's exactly what Scott Snyder's second arc on the new Batman comic did. It was the return of Batman's arch-nemesis, the Joker. Not only was there the self contained main plot that unfolded in five intense issues of Batman, but a huge crossover with like ten other comic books. This is the way you bring the most well-known villain back to comic books. Batman is truly put to the test in this arc, and Greg Capullo's art continues to outdo all others. Death of the Family will be remembered as a true classic Joker story years from now, and the first and maybe even last of the New 52. We'll all have to wait and see.

So there's a few reasons for you right there. Scott Snyder's Batman comic book is on sale every month, and you can pick up the games and movies pretty much anywhere if you're ever interested or haven't seen them before.
